Field Document & Placard
The WSMC Field Document and Notification Placard are required to be aboard WSMC-covered vessels. Please download and print in color for placement aboard the vessel.
Washington State regulations require the WSMC Field Document to be on board and readily accessible to the crew, otherwise, you may be subject to a penalty. WSMC recommends the Field Document be placed inside the front cover of your vessel’s USCG federal VRP for easy access by the vessel’s crew.
The Notification Placard should be posted prominently in the ship's radio room, communications center, or other appropriate location to ensure WSMC is notified promptly of a spill or threat of spill. Upon notification to WSMC, the WSMC watchstander is able to make the required notifications to state and federal agencies on behalf of the vessel, if requested.
NOTE: Washington Department of Ecology field inspectors may board your vessel and check for the WSMC Field Document and may hold a notification drill at any time while your vessel is in Washington State waters.
Enrolled Vessel Information
Vessels with active enrollments are indicated by an enrollment anniversary date that has not yet been reached. If the anniversary date is blank the vessel is enrolled but has not yet made its first transit to WA state waters. After the vessel’s first transit, its new anniversary date will be indicated.
Emergency Response Towing Vessel Information
In 2009 the Washington State legislature passed ESSB 5344 which became effective July 1, 2010 (the “Act”). This Act requires all Covered Vessels to provide an emergency response system (ERS) that includes an emergency response towing vessel (“ERTV”) stationed at Neah Bay, Washington, if a Covered Vessel transits the ERTV Transit Area. The Act defines the ERTV Transit Area to cover all Covered Vessel transits to or from a Washington port through the Strait of Juan de Fuca, except for transits extending no further west than Race Rocks Light. Contingency plans for Covered Vessels operating in the Strait of Juan de Fuca must now also enroll with the ERTV Compliance Group for coverage. Enrollment with ERTV Compliance Group is done using the ERTV Enrollment Form. WSMC members can use their combined WSMC/ERTV Schedule of Vessel Information with the ERTV Enrollment Form. More information on the ERS and ERTV, assessment schedules and FAQs can be found on the ERTV webpage.
