WSMC Secures Resolution for Neah Bay Storage Requirement

The Washington State Maritime Cooperative (WSMC) is pleased to announce the resolution of the on-water storage planning standard for Neah Bay. The Washington State Department of Ecology has confirmed that no updates are required to the WSMC contingency plan at this time. This decision ensures that WSMC’s oil spill response plan remains unconditionally approved, reflecting our steadfast commitment to compliance and environmental stewardship.

This resolution follows extensive discussions and a robust justification process led by WSMC to address the Neah Bay storage requirements under WAC 173-182. In addition, we successfully demonstrated compliance with the regulatory one-hour mobilization time for dedicated resources like the Barge 380, a critical asset for oil spill response in the region.

Our work on this issue exemplifies WSMC’s proactive approach to navigating complex regulatory challenges on behalf of our membership. By maintaining open communication with regulators and leveraging our strong partnerships with response organizations, we ensure that our members are always prepared for any eventuality.

We thank the Department of Ecology for their collaboration and reaffirm our dedication to protecting Washington’s waters. If you have questions about this issue or other response-related concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
